Eccl. 4:9-12 “Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone? And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken.”
From this passage we can understand better why the Lord God brings a man and a woman together.
The first reason for joining a man and women is so they will have a good reward for their labors. Some couples are like two ships passing in the night, they are not serving together. Couples who live life that way have separate lives, separate friends, separate bank accounts, and secrets.
The second reason is for the support. If one of them falls, whether it’s falling sick, or falling spiritually, the other is there to pick them up, to be an encouragement. Sadly, there are couples that have not learned the art of encouragement. They have the spirit of criticism, even a nagging spirit.
The third reason is for comfort. It’s easier to stay warm when it’s cold, when you can snuggle with your spouse. Husbands, you need to be close to your wife, she desires to feel safe in your arms.
Finally, a threefold chord is strong and victorious in troubling times. God, a husband and a wife who are committed to each other forms an unbreakable bond.
Prayer: Father we ask You to help us to encourage one another, and to labor for Your kingdom together. Give us purpose and direction, and commitment to one another .
