Marriage Minute: Respect an undeserving husband?
“In the same way, you wives, be submissive to your own husbands [subordinate, not as inferior, but out of respect for the responsibilities entrusted to husbands and their accountability to God, and so partnering with them] so that even if some do not obey the word [of God], they may be won over [to Christ] without discussion by the godly lives of their wives, when they see your modest and respectful behavior [together with your devotion and appreciation—love your husband, encourage him, and enjoy him as a blessing from God].” 1 Peter 3:1-7
A Christian wife is to point her husband to Jesus Christ in all things. One way to do that is by demonstrating submission to her husband, because God made the wife as a partner to her husband. Even if your husband doesn’t deserve it, being submissive to your husband doesn’t depend on your husband’s worthiness, but on God’s character and purpose for the family.
Wife’s Prayer: Lord, help me to show my husband that I love him by respecting and showing that I appreciate him. Help me be his biggest cheerleader.
Husband’s Prayer: Lord, help me to be respectable, and to love my wife in Your strength.
